Second Place!
Alex had his home hockey tournament this past weekend in Kasson. The first game they played was on Friday night against a very even matched team from Northfield. Our boys won that game. That meant they went on to play a very tough Crow River Black team on Saturday. It has been a very long time since I have sat on the edge of my seat for so long during a game. This team was a very good offensive team. Our boys played great defense (the puck was in our zone almost the whole time) and at the end of 2 periods, the score was 0-0. In the third period we scored and were able to hold off the other team to win 1-0. That win meant we played in the Championship game on Sunday against Crow River Orange. I had watched this team play earlier in the weekend and they were a very aggresive team who was good at passing the puck and getting their rebounds. The stars just weren't aligned for us for that game and we lost 4-0. The boys brought home the 2nd place trophy, so that was an awesome weekend for them!

Mexico
We just got back from a family trip to Mexico. My parents go every year and were kind enough to take us with them this year. So, we packed everyone up and got on the plane for a 4 hour ride. Anyone that has a 3 (almost 4) year old will be able to sympathize with us. Jordyn was so excited that it was her first time on a plane, so she was full of questions and very hyper. We landed in Mexico about 1:30 and headed to the resort. That first night, Alex woke up with an ear that was hurting really bad. We figured he had an ear infection, so we went to the pharmacy and bought some antibiotics. By Monday he was feeling better and able to have some fun. Sunday was Jordyn's 4th Birthday, so it was special that she could spend it in Mexico. Each day the kids went to the Kids Club that was offered at the resort. They both had a lot of fun playing with other kids. While they were at the Kids Club, Shawn and I were able to lay on the beach with a drink and read or do whatever we wanted. It was nice to be able to just relax and we both were able to read several books while we were there. So, Friday night comes and we are getting ready to leave the next day. That night, about 1:30 AM, Alex woke up throwing up. Every hour, him and I were in the bathroom. Poor guy! Gpa made yet another trip to the pharmacy to get more meds. By the time we went to the airport, he was feeling a little better, but very tired. We got him drugged up for the flight home and he was able to sleep a lot of the time. We landed Saturday night at 7PM, got through Customs with all our baggage by 7:30. That was really good timing! So, we are all back and healthy and back to the grind. I will add some pictures when I get them off the camera.

First Game of the Season
Alex's team had their first game of the season last Saturday. After coming off a season last year of no wins, it was nice to start with a clean slate. This year there are 16 on the team instead of the 12 from last year, so that is really helping the kids to not get so gassed out in the third period. The boys came out and played a great game. They really work good together and had a lot of fun playing. Our team ended up winning 3-0. I am not sure if Alex was more excited about the win or the fact that he was the Captain for the game. I will try to get some pics downloaded of the game. The team now will go to New Ulm this weekend for their away tournament. They play 2 games on Saturday ( 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM) and then another game on Sunday. This will be a good chance for them to play some games and also have fun off the ice.

First Place!
Alex had his first Academic Triathalon (AT) meet on Friday night in Pine Island. His team came home with the first place ribbon for the meet. I wasn't sure how long it was going to take to get Alex to come down from the ceiling, he was so excited!

Academic Team
Alex was asked by his Accelerated Studies teacher to be a part of the Academic Triathalon Team at school. This is a great opportunity for him to excel and learn more at school. They practice 2 days a week after school for 1 1/2 hours. Then, he will participate in 4 meets at other schools. I don't know a lot about it as this is new to us, but it sounds like there are several rounds to a meet. They have to answer questions, write essays and do what is called PARTY's. Don't ask me what it stands for as I can't remember, but it is a lot like putting in a short play.
This is very exciting as it is something new that Alex is getting in to. Hopefully he continues to have fun.
