Update

Man, where has the time gone? Last time I wrote here it was summer and the temps were HOT. Now, there is snow on the ground and we are talking about wind chills. Well, we are in the thick of hockey season, so needless to say we are very busy! The exciting news is that Alex scored his first goal last night! I am not sure who was more excited, him or mom. His team took the consolation trophy home from their tournament in Winona in December. This weekend we are in New Ulm and next weekend in Redwood Falls for tournaments.

Jordyn is excited to get back to school after having a couple weeks off. She talks about school a lot and really enjoys it. She is also enjoying dance class. Other than that, she is always asking to go to the hockey rink to see her "friends". Quite the social butterfly she is!

Summer Time

Boy, I can't believe it is already the end of July. I am still not sure where the summer has gone. Oh wait..........mostly to Baseball! Alex's traveling team just got done playing in one of the State Tournaments this past weekend. They went 1-2 on the weekend and didn't advance, but still played some great baseball. Alex had some great at-bats. He went 3 for 4 on Saturday while hitting the ball every time he was up to bat. He also played some great defense. They had him on 1st base for a while and then in the outfield. It was a nice weather weekend and we all enjoyed being outside watching baseball.

While we were up in the Cities, we managed to do some shopping for him as well. He has gotten in to leather work lately and we just HAD to get some tools for him. We also stopped at Hockey Giant because what is a trip to the Cities without stopping there???? Actually, even though the weather is warm and we are in the heart of Baseball season, Alex needed new hockey skates. We were lucky enough to stumble on a great sale going on.

So, all in all, it was a nice fun Family weekend.

Other than that, nothing much is new in our family.

Memorial Day Weekend

We hope that everyone has a nice relaxing weekend. We had a whirlwind trip to Kansas City, MO. The trip came about because Heather had a distant cousin who was celebrating his 40th anniversary of being ordained a priest. We figured it was a nice time to go see some family we hadn't seen since the 35th anniversary 5 years ago!

Our trip started out about 4:30PM Thursday night. We decided to take Alex out of school on Friday and make it a longer weekend. We picked Jordyn up from daycare and on the road we went. The plan was to stop a little before Des Moines to eat and then put the PJ's on the kids. The thought was that they could fall asleep when they got tired. I should have known better! Alex fell asleep almost right away. But, of course, not Jordyn. She was the last one (besides me driving) to fall asleep. Her eyes finally closed about 10:45 PM. We got to the hotel in KC about 12:15. It was sure nice to fall in to bed and go to sleep.

Friday we got up and went to the KC Zoo. The weather started out nice.....a little overcast, but nice temps. Boy, by the afternoon, the sun came out it was getting hot and muggy. The zoo was fun. We got to see several animals and have a nice day as a family.

Saturday we went to a museum in Independence that talked about the Oregon and Santa Fe Trail. There we were able to ride a covered wagon on part of the trail and learn some interesting facts. The kids didn't even realize they were learning something and doing something educational:)

Saturday night was a dinner at the church and then back to the hotel for some swimming. It was an outdoor pool and boy was it cold! The kids didnt' stay in very long.

Sunday we went to church and then a reception afterward for Father Chuck. It was nice to chit chat with the family we hadn't seen in a while. About 1:30 we left for the long trip back to MN. We stopped at a few rest areas to let the kids run and play for a bit. BUt, it was so hot and muggy, we didn't stay very long. We finally pulled in to the driveway about 9:30 Sunday night. It was nice to be home!

Monday we had Nancy and Tim come over to help us build a swing set off the tree house that was built last year. The kids are liking the new swing set a lot!

I will try to get some pictures put on the blog as soon as we get them all down loaded to the computer.

Is it really Spring????

It is hard to believe that it is May 2nd and they are talking about that nasty four letter word this weekend............yes, I am saying SNOW!!! Can you believe it? Shawn has always said that he would have snow on his B-day (May 12th) some year. I am starting to think this may be the year.

Last weekend, we dressed for Alex's soccer game as if we were going to a hockey game. I have decided that as much as we complain about it being cold going to hockey games, I prefer that to this past soccer game. At least for hockey, you get to go inside out of the wind and they (sometimes) have a little heat. The temp was about 30 degrees last weekend and the wind was whipping around like someone had turned on a fan. At halftime, the state league finally called all games for the day because of..........are you ready for this...........WINDCHILLS!!!!! It sounds like tomorrow might be another cold day for soccer. Did someone forget to tell the weather gods that it is May?

We got a great phone call last night. Last weekend was tryouts for baseball this summer. They wanted to be able to put kids evenly on teams for the rec teams. At the same time, they were also watching the kids to place some on a traveling team. Alex put down he wanted to be on the traveling team, but knowing there were a lot trying out, we didn't know how it would go. So, last night they called and offered him a spot on the team! His first away tournament is the end of the month already. Way to go Alex!!!

Spring is Here

I don't know about anyone else, but it was sure nice to have some warm weather this past weekend. Sunday was such a nice day that we spent the whole day outside. It was great to be able to get some things picked up and cleaned up.

Alex had his first soccer game on Saturday. He has taken off the past couple years from soccer so that he could play spring hockey, so we weren't sure how it would go for him. But, he did great. He played goalie the first half and didn't let any goals in. The team was leading 5-0 at halftime. They ended up winning 9-0. Alex is really have a good time playing soccer this year. I think he missed it more than he thought he had.

This next weekend, Alex has tryouts for baseball. Hard to think about baseball when soccer has just started. At these tryouts, the coaches will get a feel of the level of the kids to be able to make even teams. The traveling team will also be made out of the list from tryouts. This is somthing new for us as the city Park and Rec used to run the baseball program. So, it will be fun to try something new this year.

Jordyn is gearing up for her dance recital the first weekend in May. We had dance pictures this past week. I had to ask Grandma Mary to come and do Jordyn's hair for us as I had no idea how to do a "bun" in her hair. Ask me to dress a kid for hockey and I can do it with my eyes closed. But, ask me to get a girl ready for dance and that is another story. I can't wait for her recital to see how she is going to react to being on the stage in front of so many people. Check back for pictures!

Hope everyone is doing well. It was good to see some of you at scrapbooking this past weekend. Kim, this update is for you :) he-he

Second Place!

Alex had his home hockey tournament this past weekend in Kasson. The first game they played was on Friday night against a very even matched team from Northfield. Our boys won that game. That meant they went on to play a very tough Crow River Black team on Saturday. It has been a very long time since I have sat on the edge of my seat for so long during a game. This team was a very good offensive team. Our boys played great defense (the puck was in our zone almost the whole time) and at the end of 2 periods, the score was 0-0. In the third period we scored and were able to hold off the other team to win 1-0. That win meant we played in the Championship game on Sunday against Crow River Orange. I had watched this team play earlier in the weekend and they were a very aggresive team who was good at passing the puck and getting their rebounds. The stars just weren't aligned for us for that game and we lost 4-0. The boys brought home the 2nd place trophy, so that was an awesome weekend for them!
